So one of my favorite bloggers, Erin at Blue Eyed Bride, started an online book club. I am so excited! I'm a little delayed because I was out of town and missed the first week but I'm all caught up now! We're reading the Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain and I'm really liking it so far. This week we're discussing:
Chapters 11-20:
1. Where do you think Tim and Marty are at this point in the story?
I have no clue. Possibly hiding? Getting into more trouble? Doing something horrible and unimaginable?
2. What were your thoughts as CeeCee was helping Genevieve deliver her baby?
She is such a tough cookie! She is so young and got herself caught in a royal mess. I kept wishing she had just stuck with her gut. You could just feel where the story was heading at that point.
3. After Genevieve died, what would you have done with her baby if you had been in CeeCee's shoes?
I would have taken the baby to a hospital and told the cops everything. I HATE breaking the rules and wouldn't be able to live with myself. The truth would have poured out.
4. Why do you think CeeCee/Eve is still holding onto hope that Tim will come for her?
She's young, naive and it's her first love. First loves are hard to give up. Her relationship with Tim, in her mind, was perfect. It was the first time she felt completely loved for who she is. She bared her soul to him and felt safe with him.
5. How do you think Eve will establish her new identity in Virginia?
I'm sure she'll start working and building a support group around herself. She's a strong girl and seems pretty resilient. I think she'll continue to be a loving mom to Cory.
6. What do you think of CeeCee/Eve now after she has gone through with the kidnapping, the delivery of the baby, the escape, and the relocation?
Well, to be honest, I'm torn. Part of my feels so bad for her, she has no father or father figure in her life, her mom died when she was 12, she's been in several foster homes and now she's lost who she is and in thrown into a completely different life. The other part of me is like...hey dummy, what were you think'n? She got herself into this mess.
Chapters 1-10
1. What was your first impression of Tim?
I feel like whenever I'm introduced to a character in a novel I want to like them. So with Tim I wanted to like him, but I was cautious because it's creepy that such an older guy is hitting on a 16 year old. Guys are dogs.
2. If you were in CeeCee’s position, would you be willing to help your boyfriend in the way that she is willing to help Tim?
No way! She's not his maid for goodness sakes. I was mad she was cleaning and taking care of him like that.
3. Why do you think CeeCee is so eager to please Tim?
Because she has built up the idea of Tim in her head and wants to please him. She definately seems to be a pleaser. Plus, she's in love with the guy. He's her first love and only person in her life who is loving her in return.
4. Who do you think has it harder? Tim or CeeCee?
CeeCee's got it harder. She's all alone and has to be self-sufficient at the age of 16. Tim is in grad school, has a family, $$ and is on his own path.
5. What character trait(s) about CeeCee stuck out the most to you in these first ten chapters?
She's a fighter and isn't laying around feeling sorry for herself- which made me like her. She's strong but also naive. She seems optimistic but to a point where it is not in her best interest.
6. Do you think CeeCee is as mature as she seems?
No. In certain ways she is mature: she's strong, hard working and is bettering herself. She's also in love with a weird guy. She hasn't had strong role models in her life to help support and guide her which I think is a hindrance to her maturity growth.
